Yes, work was at the office in the '80s. On pieces of paper. Mail, files, marketing collateral, vacation request forms, internal communications, the company picknick, sales records, phone messages, were all on pieces of paper, at the office. We carried paper around in expensive briefcase's (My Wharton Graduation Leather was Sweet!).
Now its in the phone. What are the implications? Many. We touch on a few this week.
Five Posts that Touched a Nerve this week.
1980s Office
Office work used to be like the plumber. The fax machine, your phone number, messages, files, mail, network ... was at the office. All the information was there. - Jeff Frick
Digitization, securitization, fast networks, clouds, and powerful handsets have moved many office functions of the past, into the phone. From messages, to mail, files, to collateral, internal messages to industry rags, the list is long. If you go in, do it for a reason. Just as you would a customer or dentist visit, with intention. Something to get done that can't be done digitally.
Thanks again Adam and Ben

Grid
Electric cars are going to be one of the huge benefits to grid operators in terms of smoothing out demand and supply - Derek Kerton
Turning a popular position on it's head. EVs will be a net positive for grid operations, smoothing supply and demand, by leveraging V2X and millions of distributed, connected, high capacity batteries.
Not here today. How long till tomorrow? Before you know it.

Destinations
Building operators are now in the business of creating destinations of choice. People need to choose to be there. - David Abrams
Or as our friend Ryan Anderson likes to say, the office has competition. Treat it like you're a product manager. Build a draw.
David, Thanks for hosting me on the Tenant Experience Network (TEN) podcast. What a treat to join your community of forward thinking future makers. It's a opportunity to rethink, and was past due not that work has moved into the phone.
Good News, people time together matters a lot. On site is the new off site.
Intentional.
Thanks again David,

Where’s it taking me? - Jeff Frick
You are here. Please make sure it's clear before exiting. Waymo Autonomous Car
How did it choose that drop off location? Not what I was expecting. In hindsight, not sure I was thinking about it, the entire ride was not my route. There are often curbside spots around the corner, on McAllister. Franklin is busy, there's a little alley 1/2 block up on the right. How does it choose?
So many questions. Put a chatbot in the next upgrade. Have you taken a ride in the future? Next time your in SF. In the meantime, you're invited on my 15 minute ride across town, Dogpatch to Civic Center.

Pick Me
Remember on Social Dilemma where the three AI guys inside the computer are deciding what to send to the kid's feed to get him to reengage with the app.... I want those (AI) people on my team - Jeff Frick
Every time I watch it, I get a chill.
That said, the platform AI decides, from the millions if not billions of content choices in it's library, what get's shown to whom, when. When it comes to the people that matter to you professionally, as Arnold Horshack used to say, pick me, pick me.
Thanks again Evan
